I know where you are coming from and sympathize, but I think the analysis is wrong. The DLC are for the most part, rather content with how things are, and would prefer Republicans be in power than someone like the Vermont senator. It's much like the long battle between Whigs and Tories from the middle of George I's reign through the regency, George IV, Wm IV, through most of the Victorian Era. The Whigs did not want real change; they preferred Tory rule rather than "Jacobin' rule. Then too there was a war, supposedly to free the continent from Napoleon but really to re-install the Bourbons (and all the other deposed Kings) that was used to make a mockery of civil liberties. Gonzales is no worse than Castlereigh or Liverpool. What will happen? An economic collapse might do in the Republicans or it might bring about something very bad. Perhaps generations will pass before things get better.
