Der Stierscheissmeister:

"One - while our international activities target terra, the USAToday story was about domestic activities, so I'm not talkin' 'bout them. Heh heh."
"Two - nobody said anything about listening yet, so this here's whatcha call a straw herring."
"Three - Since I'm the decider, I decide what's legal. Them statutes like FISA ain't legal, 'cause I decided they ain't. And you'll never know what we told congress, 'cause they ain't allowed to talk about it. Heh again!"
"Four -- I'm an 'ordinary American.' So's Unka Karl. But you folks out there -- 'specially the folks in the press and on the internets -- y'all are suspects. If you don't understand the difference yet -- well, you will... soon.
Der Stierscheissmeister:
First, our international activities strictly target al-Qaida and their known affiliates. Al-Qaida is our enemy, and we want to know their plans. Second, the government does not listen to domestic phone calls without court approval. Third, the intelligence activities I authorized are lawful and have been briefed to appropriate members of Congress, both Republican and Democrat. Fourth, the privacy of ordinary Americans is fiercely protected in all our activities.

OK. Lets go through this one more time, even though it probably won't make a difference.
The only thing that can change the current course is the visible, collective results of individual, uncoordinated but nevertheless coherent actions that can be seen, taken together, to all be working towards roughly the same goal.
In other words, if you think something needs to be done about all this shit, you must do two things:
1) Actually take action, possibly violent
2) Consider the impact and consequences of your action (modify the planned action accordingly) so that similar minded people's action will dovetail with yours, WITHOUT any need for a leader or an agreed plan. This is the ONLY way to defeat the horror about to unfold.
Since it is extremely unlikely that a sufficient number of you will act appropriately, and that has been true for some time, I have vacated the game field long since. The country I was born in has ceased to exist. But, if you're stuck there, what the hell? Give action a shot. What have you really got left to lose?
Life is a game you can't win. You're just lucky if you can influence a few of the details along the way.
Anonymous - careful there lest you cross the line to sedition. Or treason? Which is it again? Also, where did you move and are you happy with the choice? My wife and I have been discussing this idea. So far we've narrowed it down to Sweden or Costa Rica. Any suggestions?
Mr. BM - You are so much better than me at this game. I only caught 2, 3, and 4. But then, I hadn't read the entire USA Today article yet. Still, that was a clever one.
