Community (and lack thereof)
When I look at our web stats, I am struck by the fact that we actually have a small but loyal base of folks who come here pretty frequently. Yet we get very few comments.
I'd like this blog to be a bit more interactive. Most of the other blogs I frequent seem to have rather lively conversations going on. Why not here? Please share your thoughts -- about the blog, why people aren't posting, what we can do to make this a better blog, whatever.

Unfortunately, no one has commented on your comment.
I just found you, but I'll be sure to comment.
I'm a frequent visitor to Blue Meme and I enjoy reading the posts. I have you on my list of blogs to check regularly.
Why no comments? I'm not sure of the answer. I guess of the 50 or so blogs that I frequent I only post to a few on a regular basis:
dKos
DC Media Girl
Firedoglake
Huffington Post
Taling Points Memo
Others, I read but seldom post. You can see from my list above, those are sites where the discussions get pretty exciting so I guess one thing may be that comments bring more comments.
I post but never get replies to my posts. So I don't post very often because it saves bandwidth to just talk to myself in my head. If the maine bloggers would reply to the occasional post, I think others would post more frequently. I know I would.
I also would love to pass articles I come across, but can't figure out how to e-mail them to you, or to post them.
Finally, I passed your blog info to our South Lake County Deomcratic Club and people in our group really like your site, but I've never seen them post.
you're just so damn pithy, you leave little to say.
Hi,
Comments eh?
Let see,
I read a fair number of sites, the ones mentioned above in an earlier comment as well as perhaps twenty others.
I never post on any of the sites, I read blogs to better understand issues and am looking for opinions other than my own.
Your site is consistently good, often very good, I come to your site frequently and have brought it to the attention of several sites as one they should be aware of.
I think you have a real gift for commentary and you should not feel that a lack of dialogue on your site diminishes the value your readers see in your work.
If you want to increase participation:
Try posting a question of the day, an issue to address create an open forum on some topic, ask people to propose the topic, start a survey on some issue, even if it is a goofy one. One site I visit has off the wall surveys and I do them every time.
Courage Meme! Don't confuse the number of reader responses with reader interest level, they are not the same.
Nite.
I agree with almost everything said so far. I visit the site everyday, so it follows that I find your comments interesting and insightful. I also visit many other blogs everyday and don't comment there either. In these times, I find I can hardly keep up with the news and the issues, moreless offer my comments.
And there's always the point that what I think has already been said, and typically better than I could've said it. Thanks for helping keeping us informed.
Oh - here's another idea I got from another site - we could all post pictures of our girlfriends or ex-girlfriends, or sisters or whatever and let everyone vote on how hot they are. There's lots of posts on that site! And there's the occasional debate about whether or not a particular picture is really someone's ex-girlfriend and not just some floozy on Match.com.
And to underscore my earlier post, there is still no followup post from bluememe s/herself.
I agree with most of the other posters. I read you everyday, but never post. For whatever reason people don't post, don't think its because we don't appreciate your commentaries.
