Deathwatch 3: Tom DeLay
When the somnambulant NY Times takes him on, I'm suspicious. When the Washington Post (aka "The Other Washington Times") takes him on, I search for hoarfrost in hell. But when Drudge splashes it, you just know the fix is in.
My instinct is that if the Republicans have decided the hammer needs a long ride on a short ice floe, then things are happening too fast. You never now up front when you will get to the tipping point, but if you are lucky, you know when you pass it. The second most powerful guy in America is now being offered up by his minions, who now are more afraid of DeLay's enemies than they are of DeLay. They want his 15 minutes to be over well before the midterms. I'd rather see him twisitng in the wind for another year or so.
Josh Marshall seems to think there is more than enough scandalous penumbra to keep us busy even after DeLay is gone. I sure hope he is right, because at this point I wouldn't bet he lasts the month.
