The President needs to focus on the right problem: the Public Employee Retirement System.
Public employees contribute NOTHING (read: ZERO) to social security and taxpayers fund 100% of all public employee’s disproportionate benefits. WHY? We must ask this question, because it’s not that there is no solution, it’s that we don’t see the problem!
What if we take all the money out of PERS and put it in to social security and then put all government employees on the same system as all the rest of us?
In order to really "fix" what is not working we must realize that two systems of benefits, one for public employees and another for the rest of us, just like two systems of justice, one for the powerful and another for everyone else, is not only not fair it is wrong.
