My kind of Texas BBQ

President Bush at his press conference a few minutes ago:

"I thought we were going to do fine yesterday. Shows you what I know."

Yes, Mr. President. It does, at least to the stubbornly, willfully ignorant who had not already come to the same conclusion.

Blue,

Does this mean that you are now renting space in the undisclosed location you were thinking of using earlier?

A:

Expat planning is definitely on hold.

Bloor:

Rove is likely to have earned a visit to Time Out. But the Republicans will soon realize that even if Rove's strategic genius was misoverestimated, his mastery of skullduggery on a tactical level will find willing customers, even if they have to meet him at midnight in a parking garage to take advantage of it.

This is the one thing about W I don't understand. I mean I understand that he is evil, insecure, uncurious, unserious and well - - fundamentally stupid. But all that aside. He was his dad's political liason to the the religious right. That makes him as conversant with politics as anyone. He was an operative.

For possibly the only time I have ever been exposed to W I believe him when he say s he thought they were gonna pull it out. My question is why did he think that? Actually there is another question How did he think that?

Does he only listen to Karl and disregard what he must have learned as an operative? Does just decide its gonna be ok and leave it at that?

I guess maybe this country has gotten too comfortable becuase like Rome with Nero (and other histo/politico analogies that could come to mind) we have given ourselves a psychological study that will defy generations to adequately explain.

OK forget all of the above/ My comment is WTF is with this guy?

Actually, nocasa, I think yours is one of the easier questions to answer. A fundamental weakness of faith is the vulnerability to having smoke blown up your ass. Dubya has rarely gone wrong in the past by relying on the deux ex machina operated by Poppy and Karl. He believes what Rove tells him. He knows 41 will bail him out. Why do the hard work of thinking for yourself? Why confront painful facts?

For more on the workings of Bush's mind, read this.
