From immoral action to immoral inaction

emptywheel @The Next Hurrah lays out the cynical posturing that is the Bush response to the ongoing tragedy in Lebanon.

In Iraq, we did and continue to do great evil through our actions. Now we do evil by our failure to act.

Combined with Condi's dog whistle call-out to the rapture crowd about "birth pangs," it is hard to avoid the conclusion that they really do want World War III.

It may well take divine intervention at this point to stop them from getting their wish.

Billmon also has an excellent post re: the mindboggling clusterfuck that is King George's Middle East.

It's going to take about three-four election cycles worth of solid Blue victories and Supreme Court appointments to undo the assaults on the Constitution and various other domestic nightmares. Unfortunately, it's going to take three-four decades of flawless foreign policy and blind luck to repair the damage inflicted on the world by King I've-Never-Been-to- Anywhere-But-Mexico-and -Canada-But-I-Read-My-Bible-and-Play
-a-Mean-Game-of-Risk.

I think we can avoid the 3 to 4 decades if we get the right President in '08. We need someone to apologize and ask for and commit to a fresh start and then immediately embark on a bold new foreign policy based on assistance and cooperation rather than threats and violence. I think there is next to no chance of that happening, I'm just saying it could.

Also, I don't think he'd be very good at Risk. He'd ignore his borders and put all of his forces in the Middle East and get picked apart from all sides.
